About GONZ Collision Center

Three Generations. One Standard. Since 1979.

When you hand someone the keys to your vehicle after an accident, you’re trusting them with more than a car.

You’re trusting them to understand how that vehicle was designed, how the collision affected it, how it should be repaired, and what needs to happen before you and your family get back on the road.

At GONZ Collision Center, we take that responsibility seriously.

We are a third-generation, family-owned collision repair business serving Palm Beach County since 1979. For nearly five decades, our family has built its reputation around craftsmanship, education, technology, integrity and a simple principle:

Repair the vehicle properly. Take care of the customer. Stand behind the work.

That philosophy started with a father and son more than 45 years ago. It still guides us today.

It Started With Santiago Gonzalez

The Gonzalez family’s American story began in 1969, when our family came to the United States from Cuba.

Santiago Gonzalez was a natural craftsman. He was mechanically inclined, good with his hands and had a particular ability to understand and repair automobiles. He passed that knowledge — and his passion for cars — to his son, Robert Gonzalez.

In 1979, Santiago and Robert turned that passion into a business and opened the family shop.

The cars were different. The equipment was different. Collision repair itself was different.

But the standard was remarkably similar to what it is today:

Do good work. Treat people fairly. And take pride in every vehicle that leaves your shop.

Robert Gonzalez: Building for the Future

Robert took his father’s craftsmanship and built upon it.

He recognized that collision repair was becoming increasingly technical and that experience alone would never be enough. Properly repairing the next generation of vehicles would require better equipment, better information, continuing education and a willingness to evolve with the automobile.

So GONZ kept investing.

The shop embraced computerized estimating and advanced structural repair technology. GONZ became an early local adopter of computerized laser frame measuring technology designed to compare a damaged vehicle’s structure with factory specifications.

As refinishing technology evolved, GONZ also moved into modern waterborne refinishing with a PPG waterborne paint system.

But Robert’s greatest investment has always been in knowledge.

He became an I-CAR Platinum Individual and spent years as an I-CAR instructor, helping educate other collision repair professionals. His involvement in the collision industry eventually took him beyond South Florida, including international travel to speak about collision repair practices and the continuing evolution of proper vehicle repair.

That commitment to education became part of the culture of GONZ Collision Center.

We don’t believe experience means doing something the same way for 45 years. Experience means having the knowledge to recognize when things have changed — and the discipline to keep learning.

The Third Generation: From Sweeping Floors to the Courtroom

For Robert “Bobby” Gonzalez, the family automotive business started long before law school.

It started sweeping floors.

Growing up around the shop meant helping wherever he could, watching his father and the GONZ team work, and learning firsthand what happens after a serious automobile accident.

He saw badly damaged vehicles arrive.

He saw customers who had been hurt.

He saw families whose lives had suddenly been disrupted.

And he saw the frustration that could arise when people were forced to navigate vehicle repairs, injuries and insurance claims all at the same time.

Those experiences helped propel Bobby toward law school.

He became an attorney and ultimately built a personal injury-focused law firm dedicated to advocating for people injured in automobile crashes and other accidents.

But he never really left the automotive world behind.

Today, Bobby is actively involved in the family automotive businesses while simultaneously continuing to lead his law practice and represent injured victims.

That gives the third generation of GONZ a perspective that is unusual in the collision repair industry:

We understand both sides of the crash.

The Person and the Vehicle Are Part of the Same Story

After a serious collision, two different investigations often begin.

An attorney may investigate how the crash occurred, the forces involved and how the people inside the vehicle were injured.

A collision professional looks at many of those same forces from another perspective: how the impact traveled through the vehicle, what structures and systems were affected, and what procedures may be necessary to properly repair it.

Those two worlds rarely communicate.

At GONZ, we believe they should.

Modern vehicles are sophisticated safety systems. High-strength structural materials, airbags, seat-belt systems, electronics, cameras, radar, sensors and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems can all play a role in how a vehicle responds before, during and after a collision.

That’s why making a damaged vehicle look good again is only part of collision repair.

Our concern isn’t simply how your vehicle looks when it leaves our facility. It’s how it was repaired.

The Vehicle Owner Is Our Customer

Insurance companies are part of the collision repair process. We communicate with insurers, adjusters and claims representatives every day.

But there is an important distinction at GONZ:

The insurance company is not our customer. The vehicle owner is.

An insurance estimate is part of the claims process. It does not replace our responsibility to independently evaluate the damaged vehicle and determine what we believe is necessary to properly repair it.

When questions arise over a part, operation or repair procedure, we don’t believe the answer should simply be whatever costs the least.

We research.

We document.

We explain.

And when necessary, we advocate.

Our team can research applicable manufacturer repair information, document vehicle damage and provide supporting information explaining why a particular operation or procedure may be necessary.

And the third generation’s legal background gives our organization an additional understanding of documentation, evidence, insurance disputes and advocacy that is uncommon in the collision repair business.

We understand that an insurance company’s position and a repair facility’s responsibility are not necessarily the same thing.

Our job is to know the difference — and to be prepared to stand behind our repair plan.

Professional Collision Repair Requires a Process

Anyone can use the word “quality.”

We believe quality has to be built into the process.

Our operating standards call for repairs to comply with applicable manufacturer, I-CAR and GONZ standards, along with quality-control inspections before a repaired vehicle is released.

Our procedures emphasize damage identification, disassembly and blueprinting, structural measurement when appropriate, documentation, parts verification, communication throughout the repair and final quality control.

Our company policies also emphasize continuing education, workplace safety, honesty and integrity.

That’s intentional.

Professional collision repair shouldn’t depend on luck or who happens to be working that day. It should be the result of a disciplined process.

Safety Doesn’t Start After the Accident

Our commitment to automotive safety also doesn’t begin when a damaged vehicle arrives at the body shop.

We would rather help prevent the collision in the first place.

That’s one reason our family has continued investing in comprehensive mechanical service, diagnostics and modern vehicle technology.

Today’s collision and mechanical systems increasingly overlap.

Brakes matter.

Tires matter.

Suspension and alignment matter.

Cameras and radar matter.

Electronic systems matter.

ADAS matters.

Understanding the modern automobile requires understanding how these systems work together.

Through our automotive operations, we’ve invested in equipment, diagnostics, technology and training intended to give our team a broader understanding of the complete vehicle — before and after a collision.

Our goal isn’t simply to fix what’s broken. We want every mile after the repair to be a safe one.

Your Independent Dealership Alternative

Today, we describe GONZ as an Independent Dealership Alternative.

Both words matter.

Independent means we work for the vehicle owner.

We work with insurance companies throughout the claims process, but our responsibility is to our customer and to the quality of the repair leaving our facility.

When something doesn’t make sense, we ask questions.

When additional damage is discovered, we document it.

When a procedure is necessary, we explain it.

And when we believe something matters to the integrity of the repair, we’re prepared to advocate for it.

Dealership Alternative means you shouldn’t have to sacrifice professionalism, technology or technical expertise simply because you choose an independent family-owned facility.

Our automotive capabilities extend beyond traditional collision repair and include mechanical service, diagnostics, structural measuring, refinishing and modern vehicle safety technology.

The Gonzalez family has also maintained a wholesale motor vehicle dealer license for more than 25 years and has longstanding relationships throughout the automotive industry, including convenient access to rental-car providers to help make the repair process easier for our customers.

We want to provide the capabilities and professionalism people expect from a dealership while preserving something increasingly difficult to find:

An independent, family-owned business that knows its customers, puts their interests first and stands behind its work.

Why GONZ?

Because we’ve been repairing vehicles since 1979 — and we haven’t spent those years standing still.

Because our first generation taught us craftsmanship.

Because our second generation embraced technology, education and increasingly sophisticated repair methods.

Because our third generation grew up sweeping the shop floors, became an attorney representing people injured in crashes, and returned to the family business with a deeper understanding of insurance, evidence and advocacy.

Because we’ve invested in understanding both collision and mechanical repair as vehicles have become increasingly complex.

Because we know that the least expensive proposed repair and the appropriate repair are not always the same thing.

And because we’re willing to do the work necessary to know the difference.

Research it. Document it. Explain it. Repair it properly. Stand behind it.

Most importantly, we understand what happens when the repair is finished.

Someone gets the keys back.

Someone gets behind the wheel.

Someone’s spouse, child, parent or friend may be sitting in the passenger seat.

We never forget that.

Our Family Name Is on the Work

There are easier ways to run a collision center.

You can chase volume.

You can make every decision based on cost.

You can accept “that’s how it’s always been done.”

That’s not how the Gonzalez family built this business.

From Santiago Gonzalez, to Robert Gonzalez, to the third generation today, our family name has been tied to automotive repair in Palm Beach County for nearly five decades.

That creates accountability.

We live here.

We work here.

Our reputation was built here.

And we intend for the GONZ name to mean something for generations to come.

When something isn’t right, we want to know about it.

When we put our name behind a repair, we stand behind our work.

And when your vehicle requires a collision repair facility willing to do the homework, ask the questions, invest in the equipment and training, and advocate for a proper repair, that’s exactly the kind of shop we’ve spent generations building.
